When You Love What You Do, It Never Feels Like Work

There’s a quote that says, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.”

I never fully understood that until I began creating jewelry and building Midnight Sun Elegance from the ground up.

Every time I set up my display at a market—laying out each pair of earrings, adjusting trays, and watching people’s faces light up as they explore—I feel a deep sense of gratitude. This isn’t just a job to me. It’s a calling, a passion, and a piece of who I am.

Beading has always been more than art. It’s connection. It’s memory. It’s culture.

When I sit down to create, hours pass in what feels like minutes. The world quiets. My hands move with purpose, and my heart feels full. Each bead becomes a tiny reflection of my Dene roots, my experiences, and the stories I want to share with the world.

Standing behind my table, watching people fall in love with pieces I poured my spirit into, reminds me why I do this. It’s in the conversations, the smiles, and the moments when someone tells me that a piece “speaks to them.” It’s in the feeling of seeing my art go home with people who will treasure it.

Loving what you do doesn’t mean the work disappears—there are long nights, market mornings, packing, planning, and organizing. But the joy behind it all makes every moment worth it. It turns effort into excitement, routine into ritual, and work into something more meaningful.
